Team XISS Visits South Korea

New places give a new experience and two students and two faculty members were lucky to have a taste of it. Prof. Anmol R. Bodra and Prof.Mary Bodra, along with Mr. Shashank and Ms. Aaisha, students of Dept. Of Information Technology, XISS Ranchi visited Hwashin Cyber University, Busan and Vision University, Jeonju, South Korea for International Friendship Program from October 27, 2016 to November 24, 2016.

The professors shared the highs and lows of their whole experience. Prof. Anmol Bodra expressed how difficult it was for them to converse with the Koreans because of language barrier. Nevertheless, the enthusiastic help and warm hospitality of Dr. K. D. Loupous and the English Department of Hwashin Cyber University, Busan made the experience enjoyable.

Prof. Mary Bodra had a mesmerising experience and was fascinated with the food, climate, environment and their culture. They were fortunate enough to get a chance to learn the Korean language and their culture as they visited the University's President House.

 

In addition, they got insights of how Vision University emphasizes on their infrastructure and hygiene and get their students industry-ready by providing them a wholesome of personality grooming as well as Industrial training.

Mr. Shashank and Ms. Aaisha were lucky to have a first hand experience of interaction with students coming from all the parts of the world. Also, they gained knowledge of technological advancement like 3D printing and industrial integration with universities and learned Korean language and culture. There insights on future aspects for the students of XISS is of major help. They even provided information regarding the eligibility criteria to apply for jobs in Korea. 

XISS at TRADEWARS 2016

Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar organized East India’s Biggest B-School fest “Xpressions-2016” last week from 11^th nov’16 to 13^th nov’16. The three days long Fest also had a business stimulation game “TRADEWARS-2016” in association with DALAL STREET INVESTMENT JOURNAL (DSIJ) as one of its event.

The Experience was the one which made our blood alive. The game begun with an Online Quiz on 17^th Oct’ 16, which was a meant for testing our financial skills. Top 100 teams were then selected for trading in NSE and BSE through there virtual online trading platform. We were provided with a virtual money of Rs. 10 lacs and trading window were open for 5 days from 24^th oct to 28^th oct’16. We faced few difficulties in trading as this was done during the actual trading hours which clashed with our classes and the Virtual Trading platform was also not based on real time quotes there was a difference of 3 minutes.

During these 5 days of trading we mainly focused on Intraday rather than holding the stocks. As the trading period was less, we primarily focused on one technical and one fundamental analysis i.e. the beta analysis of stock which studies the sensitivity of stocks w.r.t. the market, trend analysis and sectoral analysis. 
 

After this trading round, TOP-20 teams qualified for the round-3 in which we were asked to send them our strategy behind trading in a powerpoint file. Further, We made it to final round, which was a on campus round to be conducted on 12^th oct’16. In this round five teams were selected and were asked to prepare a powerpoint presentation again. 

We were happy as we were about to represent XISS for the first time. We prepared for presentation and primarily focused on:

·       Sectoral analysis.
·       Investment Strategy.
·       Our Portfolio return vs The Market.
·       Future Outlook (for the stock we held)

We faced too much difficulties to reach there. DEMONETISATION???? Yes, this also made our way to the destiny difficult. We faced difficulties getting our tickets but we managed somehow.

We reached a day before our presentation on 11^th.  On 12^th we gave our presentation, It was a 15 minutes long presentation followed by 5 mins Q&A round. We exceeded our time limit as our portfolio was too much diversified and had too many stocks, this made us suffer and face penalty marking and we became 2^nd runner up.

The team there at XIMB was too cooperative, we thank them for the arrangements they made.

We  had a great experience over there, the overall journey made us aware about our interests towards the capital market, a bit of technical analysis to be made for investment and the most important one “ Life is what everyone spends but if you want to live , then move out of crowd and give your life – A swing.”

“Before joining XISS, I worked as a software engineer and it was difficult for me to leave the organization in order to pursue my higher studies. Having applied to various colleges I finally got selected for this Xavier Institute of Social Service. The Faculty and the Students have made it easy for me to carry on with my studies as the environment here is very supportive.

Hailing from the city of Nizams, Hyderabad I found the hostel life to be the best. Be it late night group studies, birthday celebrations, late parties or the basketball matches , it turned out to be a perfect blend of studies and recreational activities. The hostel is well secured as the Faculty quarters are situated inside the hostel campus, the facilities and food provided are really commendable. 

Apart from curricular activities,I was elected as the Cultural and Sports Committee representative from 2015-16 wherein I had a chance to enhance my leadership and team building qualities. The institute provides us the best platform to showcase our talents. XISS hosts number of competitions that helped me in exploring my talents as I was into poster making and singing.

As a PGDM/MBA student, the students expect to get good placements. At XISS we get a wide range of opportunities helping us to widen our area and interest of dream job.  After getting enough exposure towards work and widening my area of interest, I got placed at Intelliber Technologies, Jamshedpur, which is a start-up dealing with digital marketing. It was my dream to work at a start-up and now having been placed with Intelliber Technogies I find myself bagging my dream job.

I am thankful to XISS for giving me the opportunities right from the very beginning of the course. Be it the interactive classroom session, the Rural visits, Industrial visits organized by the college, the library, the canteen all the facilities provided here are commendable and most importantly my professors and my friends with whom I have so many memorable experiences, have become part of my journey. I feel proud to be a part of the XISS Family.”
