INCREASING PREFERENCE FOR DUAL COURSE
MAKES ME GO TECHNICAL AFTER MANAGERIAL.

‘Doing something off the track is always challenging and this was my one sided view too, so far.’

XAVIER INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SERVICE (XISS)  is an Institute which I came to know from my friends who are the former students of it. I got into it through CMAT with 73.96 percentile. XISS  has changed my thinking and so has my course which is PGDM in Information Technology. Being a BBA Graduate, it was really a tough decision to be made by me whether I should opt for a technical stream or not. But after tasting the technical life, I do not regret my decision. I am happy because I got to learn something which I thought was beyond my capabilities or interest.

XISS not only nurtures our reading, writing, knowledge, communication skills, it’s much more than that, teaching techniques here are irreplaceable and incredible.

Professors are well versed and expert in their styles. Discipline takes another step, being a Jesuit institute, it is a blend of School time and Professional life, and we make our way through it.

Information Technology as a course, has subjects which are theoretical and practical. It seems difficult initially but later with guidance and support, it gets easy. The best part is IT is not rigid to its technicality, curriculum has many other unique ways to make us understand the outside world, social work is another part of it.  People generally talk about spreading awareness but hardly practice it, XISS again proved its difference by making it done from its students, We got an opportunity to become a part of the Nobel cause by organising Blood donation Camp and visiting Central Institute of Psychiatry. It was mark when we were able to see a world that was so different from ours.

All in all, I will conclude XISS do justify being ‘PROFESSION WITH A DIFFERENCE’ and make ‘PROFESSIONAL WITH A DIFFERENCE’.

Student Testimonial - Mr. Frank Felix

Experience is just a word to describe loads which I have gained from XISS in a short while. Before joining XISS I was working in a marketing research company in Kolkata as a Business Development Executive, but I realised that in order to gain altitude in my career I needed to study further. That’s why I decided to pursue MBA in Marketing and XISS came as a natural choice as I was aware of the culture of a Jesuit run institution which itself was an assurance of quality. Apart from that, the interactions with the acquaintances I had who were currently studying at the institute was convincing enough for me to select XISS as my primary option.

This is the first time that I have been away from home for studies and the journey till now has been fun. Life at Ranchi has simply been amazing whether it be the rides to Patratu, all the birthday treats which you get to enjoy, the late-night discussions or the group study before exams. It all perfectly falls into place. The classroom environment has been an enriching, one with the equally supportive faculty members being very approachable and are available at a moment’s notice.

There have also been some personal milestones achieved during this short while as I got to be Mr. Fresher of Marketing department 2016 and also the topper of trimester 1. These accolades give me immense joy as it motivates me to keep going forward with the same enthusiasm. I look forward to my remaining time here as I know it will be filled with experiences and memories.

I intend to come out of here as a better person which can add greater value to the society and I think XISS gives me the right platform for the same. It also gives me an excellent launching pad to start my career and make it big in the long run. After all the institute, the faculty and your classmates can help you with the launch but navigating the space shuttle to the moon is your job.

Psychology to PGDM in Finance

From Psychology to PGDM in Finance

Psychology was a passion that I wanted to follow after my school days; and with open-minded parents as mine it was not difficult to convince them to let me follow it. With the grades that I had managed in my 12th boards, I was eligible for admissions at the prestigious Delhi University. However, after three years of following my passion to understand human behavior, I realized that I was keener on using these skills to become a manager, which I believe was the idea all along.
However, it is not common that one thinks of acquiring a management degree with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Therefore, it was all the more difficult for me to convince the college’s admission panel or recruiters (in the future) to give me a chance.

While applying for college from a plethora of management institutes, XISS caught my eye. Xavier Institute of Social Service, as the name suggests focuses not just on being a top management institution but also in developing committed and sensitive professionals. It visualizes itself as a centre of excellence while imparting value driven management education, and catering to its diverse clientele and stakeholders.

Such a vision appealed to me instantly. It would only fit my psychology background and my personality as it was. At XISS, they “nurture professionals with a difference.” It is not just about being a top honcho at a reputed organization but to encourage individual differences and allowing them harness their humanitarian ambitions right from the very beginning.
This suited me just fine. And added to this, the hands on education provided by the faculty is no less than any A category B-School. The professors here are approachable and extremely helpful. With students belonging to different backgrounds, it is often difficult to have 60 odd minds at the same page. However, the faculty tries its best make it ‘understandable’ for them all. Students can contact and meet the professors for additions information and guidance; and there is an encouraging environment around. Also with the diversity among peers, the learning is not just limited to management concepts.

As they say, “no play makes jack a dull boy.” XISS completely believes in this theory. And so the curriculum is exhaustive not just with extensive lectures and visiting guests but also has an entire sports week and their annual cultural fest, Panache for its students. The events are well-spaced and provide suitable opportunities to students to unwind from the overwhelming course that a management institute tends to have. And just like its education, there is encouragement for these extra-curricular activities too.

During the course of these two years, one finds him/herself intrigued, encouraged, provoked and impelled only to rediscover one’s own self and to turn into a confident young professional who is ready to venture out in the world at his/her own dictate.
