Basketball Tournament '18

Aspirations. Hopes. These are the usual feelings that one experiences while moving towards a new beginning. We all recently welcomed a new year which is usually bordered with the start of a new chapter and a scope of improvement, either by way of burning out our vices or incorporating more virtues within ourselves or better still, indulging ourselves in a little bit of both in order to build a better version of ourselves. And what better way to begin a new phase of exuberance and optimism than to give way to the spirit of sportsmanship and team work. After all, collective efforts are the best way to take a step closer towards the dreams we have been chasing and wanting to convert into reality for a long long time, which for some people could imply a majority of their life. No one ever reached the heights of success standing alone and one-man armies, more often than not, fail to achieve success in their endeavors.

In the light of this, XISS is organizing a Basketball Tournament for boys and girls of all departments from both batches from 10^th-14^th January, 2018. Come, cheer for your team and provide them with the motivation they need to sail through and attain the victory they deserve, in return for all the hard work they have put in by devoting their heart, soul and blood in the practices which will help them move towards the coveted trophy.

My #XISSRanchi Experience.

Experience is just a word to describe loads which I have gained from XISS in a short while. Before joining XISS I was working in a marketing research company in Kolkata as a Business Development Executive, but I realised that in order to gain altitude in my career I needed to study further. That’s why I decided to pursue MBA in Marketing and XISS came as a natural choice as I was aware of the culture of a Jesuit run institution which itself was an assurance of quality. Apart from that, the interactions with the acquaintances I had who were currently studying at the institute was convincing enough for me to select XISS as my primary option.

This is the first time that I have been away from home for studies and the journey till now has been fun. Life at Ranchi has simply been amazing whether it be the rides to Patratu, all the birthday treats which you get to enjoy, the late-night discussions or the group study before exams. It all perfectly falls into place. The classroom environment has been an enriching, one with the equally supportive faculty members being very approachable and are available at a moment’s notice.

There have also been some personal milestones achieved during this short while as I got to be Mr. Fresher of Marketing department 2016 and also the topper of Trimester 1. 

These accolades give me immense joy as it motivates me to keep going forward with the same enthusiasm. I look forward to my remaining time here as I know it will be filled with experiences and memories.

I intend to come out of here as a better person which can add greater value to the society and I think XISS gives me the right platform for the same. It also gives me an excellent launching pad to start my career and make it big in the long run. After all the institute, the faculty and your classmates can help you with the launch but navigating the space shuttle to the moon is your job.

Basketball Tournament - DAY 1

The inter department basketball tournament kick started with sky high energy levels and team spirit flowing throughout the basketball court. This yearly event has #XISSRanchi all charged up, right from the faculty to the students!

The match was in attendance by the Assistant Director Rev. Fr. Pradeep Kerketta, the HOD of Finance, Prof. Ratnesh Chaturvedi, the HOD of Marketing, Prof. Anmol Bodra, Prof. Mary Shiela Bodra, Dr. Shayamal Gomes, Prof. Mrityunjoy Roy, Prof. Mahua Banerjee, Prof.

Sajeet Lakra, Dr. Amar Tigga, and several others.

The first match between HRM-I and Finance-I, was a clean sweep by the boys of HRM I by 29- 10. The boys of HRM I were seen sporting jerseys with the names of their mothers, which added an element of respect to the whole game.

The second match between the boys of HRM II and Marketing II was won by HRM II with some

amazing shots by Sisirjali Soren, with the scoreboard at 21-14.

The third match held between the girls of HRM and Finance department, fuelled with energy from the cheering spectators, was thrilling till the very end. It was a neck to neck fight till the 2nd quarter with the scoreboard at 0-0. The crowd went wild as the HRM girls proceeded to take the winning

shots, ending the match with a score of 7-0.

The fourth match was between the girls of Marketing I and IT I. Though the girls from IT I gave a tough fight, victory went to the girls of the Marketing department, with the score at 8-0 in the end!

The last match for the day between RM I and IT I concluded with 14-7 on the scoreboard. The crowd was screaming Gaurav and Rohit's name as they scored baskets and defended the opponents, leading RM I to a victory.

The day ended with the crowd in high spirits and full of anticipation for the upcoming week. Sports Week has just started and there are series of matches lined up between teams geared up with strategies and winning spirits. Even though the first day just ended, the students were seen speculating about the final contenders to the much awaited finale for the tournament, scheduled on the 25th of January. The gest is to see which department would make the trophy theirs, this

year.
