StudentTestimonial-SwetaSinha

“Like a wide spectrum of colours,
it painted almost every aspect of both professional and personal life.”

The journey of XISS has been a roller coaster ride. It had both leaps and bounds, smiles and tears, success and failures, emergence and breakdowns, love and friendship. Standing at the threshold of adult life, a glance back to my college life, it feels like it has been a mesmerizing journey.
From winning elections, as Cultural and Sports Committee (CASC) of my class to winning applauds at Panache; From organizing college events to participating in inter-department matches, the bullies, the cheers and the roars, all have added to a life time of memories.
Practicing Statistics to learning Organizational Behavior, mugging up Business Law to Bunking Classes, Birthday treats to Canteen food, friendship to competing with others, everything was so perfect.
Learning and Leading are the key aspects of XISS. Making group presentations and projects were fun, allowing us to test our leadership qualities along with managing classroom studies.
Hostel has been the most important part of the XISS diaries.  From the very day, we joined, we became ambassadors of our hometowns, discussing facts and fun about our hometowns to the late-night studies, the hostel meeting to welcoming of juniors, from the wing parties to midnight birthday bashes. Talking of that we cannot forget the contributions of Mary and Barla aunty for draping our sarees during placements. To put it in a nutshell, it is ‘Home away from Home’.

The growing demand for MBA graduates and having a Work- Ex, I decided to do my PGDM

Securing 97% in CMAT examinations I applied for XISS Ranchi after coming to know from TIME Hyderabad and one of my relative suggested me about XISS being a good management institute in Jharkhand. Therefore, I moved to Ranchi from South India to purse PGDM in Information Technology from XISS.

The classroom teaching and interactive sessions with the Professors provides us with great learning opportunity. The best part is the social field work held every Monday and Tuesday, serving the society. As part of our field visits – we move in and around Ranchi, interacting with people. During our 2nd Trimester, the institute took us to Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi teaching how patients are being treated there. Team Obscura – The Media Club of XISS provides a great platform for students to explore their creativity and add-on to the extra curriculum of the students. The institute provides with various exposures regarding your interest area.

During the month of November, the faculty suggested my name for the 3week learning experience and visit to Hwasin Cyber University at Busan, South Korea and Busan Kyungsang University where we explored the various opportunities for IT people in the area like software development and 3D Printing. In the last phase of the 3-week learning programme, we visited Vision University Jeonju city where we had a brief understanding of Korean Academics.

It was a good exposure for me enabling me to interact with students abroad. I can clearly say that XISS is working hard to establish its relationships with universities outside India and conducting various student exchange programmes.

I define XISS as a “Down to Earth” as teaches a lot to you-how you behave in the society and how you should treat people irrespective of their social status.

Secret Santa at XISS - #ChristmasComing

Christmas is both a sacred religious holiday and a worldwide cultural and commercial phenomenon. For two millennia, people around the world have been observing it with traditions and practices that are both religious and secular in nature. Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, a spiritual leader whose teachings form the basis of their religion. Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive. Santa Claus is believed to be a saint named Nicholas who helped the poor and needy. St. Nicholas spent his entire wealth by helping poor’s and persons in need by providing them with gifts and valuables. This incident marks the birth of Santa Claus as St. Nicholas is said to be the protector of children.

Being a Jesuit institute, Christmas eventually becomes the main festival at our Institute when holy masses and feasts are observed in our Campus. We, the students of XISS tried to cherish the spirit of Christmas and Santa by organising a game called secret Santa. In this game chits were distributed among the students of the respective departments with the name of a student written on it. The student who receives the chit becomes the ‘Secret Santa’ of the student whose name is on the chit. The person gives gifts to the student secretly and the meanwhile the student on the other end tries to guess the name of his/her Santa. This game continues for a week after which we observe a small get together where the identity of Santa is revealed.

This game keeps the alive the spirit of Santa and Christmas but more importantly, it strengthens the bond between the students.

Materialistic things can give us joy for a particular moment but the bond so formed continues to be with us our entire life. Christmas is a festival of joy and brotherhood and we the students of XISS, try to keep that spirit alive from our small steps which make a big difference.
